My cousins got to Nassau the 24 of April. When they arrived at the marina, it was kind of a coincidence because mom and I were going to the lounge to wait for our cousins Jasper, Maaren and Kirsten. But while we were walking to the lounge along the dock we saw them pull in a taxi/truck. I tried to hide behind a bush but Jasper saw me so while was I hiding Jasper snuck up on me and scared me instead of me scaring him. We stayed in Nassau three days then we decided to go to a cay (which is pronounced like key) in the Exumas (which is a whole bunch of cays). The name of the cay was Highborne Cay. It was a six-hour sail to Highborne but when got there the first fish we saw was a Barracuda. As soon as we docked our boat Jasper and I asked Talls (the man who helped us dock) if fishing was allowed on the docks and he said no. He told us that there was a floating dock on the other side of the breakwater that we could fish off of. When we docked it was 4:30 pm, so Jasper and I decided to use the rental bikes and go explore the island and look for fishing spots as well as spots we could hang out in. It was starting to get late so we decided to go to one more spot. We parked our bikes at the top of the little hill going down the beach, and then we walked down to the beach were there was a path to a “hot spring”. We walked down the path and saw an empty cauldron. There was a sign above the cauldron on one of the trees that said “ha ha ha, wrong way”. We walked back up the hill and rode our bikes back to the boat and ate dinner, then went to sleep. The next day at 7:00 am Jasper and I went on another bike ride to see the sunrise. When the sun had risen enough for us to get bored, we got on our bikes and rode down to the main beach, where we saw a huge thunderstorm heading towards us so we came back from our bike ride and headed to the boat. That thunderstorm went past us and we ended up having a great time on all of our days at Highborne Cay, especially fishing. | |

We were in 4 to 5 feet or water under our keel (and we have 4 feet of draft which is how long our keel is) and about 300 yards away we saw a Catamaran that was aground (which is where your keel hits the Mud, Sand, Rock, anything your keel hits and gets stuck) And then on the VHF (a radio for communicating with other boats) they asked us “How much draft do you guys have? “ We answered “four feet”. They got off the ground and followed us through the shallow part and then drove ahead.
When we got to the marina in Jekyll Island we saw the same catamaran people that ran aground on the docks to help us tie up the lines on the cleats on the dock. When we were done tying up the ropes Mom and I went to the catamaran and got information on where things are. We also got a tour of their boat but then we discovered they were delivering it, and that it was a $500,000 boat. It was cool. We went up to the marina restaurant and yard to find our way around. When mom and I were coming back from looking where the bathrooms were, we met a guy named Doc. He said “We’re going to have a fire/party, so if you folks can play any instrument your welcome to come and even if you folks don’t play an instrument then you are still welcome”. We went back to the boat and Mom made dinner while Dad and went to play football pass and play. Ava went back to the boat to do some things that don’t concern me like drawing; I’m not the drawing type so I didn’t come. So when we came closer we saw SO MUCH WOOD that the people gathered and there were like 300 or more pinecones and 50 six foot long logs. Their fire was big so we stayed there for a while and I helped with the fire. Then Doc came with the accordion and played a couple song s that sounded like pirate songs but not the happy songs sad ones. Here’s the best description I have. Have you ever watched Pirates of the Caribbean the Dead Man’s Chest? In the part when Will Turner on the Flying Dutchman (aka Ship) was looking for the key for the Davy Jone’s locker, the sea creature was playing a sad gloomy song. Then out of nowhere I heard the violin and then I said to myself “that’s my sister”. So I went over to see what was going on. I saw Ava playing Pirates of the Caribbean music that she learned in middle school to Doc. When Ava finished she said to me that she was “I’m getting bit up by the awful gnats”. So I said “Well lets go to the fire” so we went to the fire and Ava played some more violin music with the other people. I kept burning the fire and I chatted a bit with some new people. My mom started talking to a different person and she was telling stories of extraordinaire things and then I started suffering from boredom. I started playing with a fire stick to put the flame on things that weren’t lit. When everybody was starting to leave I asked if I could put water on the flames and Dad said yes. I put the fire out, we said our goodbyes. We went to the bathroom and we walked back to Night Music, put our pajamas on and then brushed and teeth. Then I read for a least one hour and then I closed my eyes and went to sleep. I really liked Jekyll Island. In this picture we were in Yellowstone which is a very historical National Park.
Yellowstone National Park has a high frequency of bison. Yellowstone also has wolves but they are SUPER rare, but we were lucky enough to see one in the fields, maybe it was two but we weren't sure. Yellowstone National Park also has geysers, hot springs, and it has biscuit basins - which are a group of geysers together. I suggest going there in autumn because its not crowded at all because in the spring or summer it's packed with people and you can barely get around and see things. I think I would go there again, if you go there in autumn make sure to pack warmly. : ) I love the faces :P |
