Some of the highlights were:
- Watching the full moon set as the sun rose each morning when we got underway.
- "Flying" down the Cape Fear River on Thanksgiving Day at a speed double what we usually make - thanks to the outgoing tide and river current. It made getting into the marina at South Port a little tricky but Eric got us their safely.
- A fabulous turkey dinner with lots of family time on Thanksgiving Day. Fresh turkey cooked in the pressure cooker is wonderful.
- Having the wind direction be perfect so that we could sail each day in the relatively narrow ICW channel.
- Calm morning departure from Myrtle Beach into the Waccamaw River. This is Karrie's favorite stretch of the ICW, with the bald cypress trees and meandering river channel. It feels so far away from civilization and the quiet is lovely.
- Anchoring just south of Georgetown, SC. Perfect sunset watching many types of shore birds settle in and nest for the night in the marshes. Awake before sunrise to head to Charleston.
- Crossing Charleston Harbor, heading through Elliott Cut - with 4 knots of current against us, it was a bit like fighting whitewater to get through. Fortunately, it was only 1/2 mile long so the challenge didn't last long. The kid in me wanted to put on a life jacket and float through it all!
- Reaching one of our favorite destinations - Lady's Island Marina in Beaufort, SC - and seeing many cruising friends there. Reed has been setting the blue crab traps and helping Steve, the dockmaster, cook and clean them each night.
We will depart again tomorrow with our next stop at St. Augustine for a few days.
Thanks for following our adventure! Enjoy!
